Asset management solutions, tailored to suit
“We set out to shake up our industry,” says Harvey Fisher, the dynamic young general manager of Carus Group, “So we were absolutely thrilled to win the award for the fastest growing services business in the South Island in the 2017 Deloitte Fast 50.
“Not only that, but we were also ranked fifth fastest-growing company nationwide.” Carus (Latin for cherish) is a nationwide painting and maintenance company built around caring for its customers, their properties and their communities. Harvey notes that it was particularly satisfying to receive the award after all the hard work expended on establishing the company and putting it onto a sound footing. “Our staff have worn out a lot of shoe leather and knocked on literally hundreds of doors to sell our message and our service since we started the business. The award tells people we are serious about what we offer and are definitely here for the long haul.” From the outset the team at the Carus Group had a clear vision. Their service would be offered to particular sectors of the community: Government and the public sector, schools, hospitality, aged care, churches, body corporates and commercial clients. “To succeed with these types of clients, we knew we needed to set in place the highest level of health and safety and to select and train the very best staff because of the sensitive environments they might be working in.” Harvey says that health and safety is always first and foremost in the minds of Carus’ people when they are planning and carrying out their work. “We provide comprehensive site specific safety plans for all our worksites and our work teams carry the applicable training certificates and qualifications required.
“In addition all our staff are not only required to have top-notch trade skills, but they are also police checked and we operate a random drug and alcohol policy.” This level of care and professionalism permeates every element of the Carus operation from the appearance of its painting teams, to the stylishness of its Christchurch head office and the detailed presentation of its company profile brochure. “We are guided by our mission of leading the market with a professional, highly trained painting and maintenance operation which is flexible to servicing all our clients’ needs. The way to achieve this is by staying true to our purpose and core values.” That purpose is to improve the serviceable life and value of property assets through general painting and through individually tailored asset management solutions. The core values relate to staff having pride in their appearance, being passionate and committed to their work, as well as caring for others and their property and being willing to learn and grow. “These are fundamental values set out clearly to all our staff and we are very determined to have them abided by.” Carus is also focused on keeping the environment looking as clean and green as the company’s logo. They know that painting and maintenance can be dirty jobs, so they have made the move to environmentally-friendly solutions wherever possible. The Carus Group now has four branches – Christchurch; which services the entire South Island, Auckland, Wellington and Whangarei, and they are in the process of establishing a branch in Hamilton. Out of these bases the amount of work the Carus Group has completed in its three short years is impressive. Large scale commercial buildings, government institutions and schools from Kaitaia to Balclutha, have all received that “cherishing” touch.
