The High Street Post Office Building, now home to C1 Espresso, is a resilient heritage building designed by architect James T. Mair in 1932. Remarkably ahead of its time, the building was engineered to be earthquake-resistant, a feature that helped it withstand the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes.
In 2017, the Carus team was proud to help restore the building’s historic charm and iconic Art Deco style. Our work began with a thorough exterior washdown to prepare the surfaces, followed by a full exterior repaint that refreshed the facade without taking away from its architectural character.
Delivered with care and precision, this project brought new life to a structure containing a lot of history in the heart of Christchurch city.
